The Rose of Jericho is a legendary “rebirth” plant known for its ability to curl up dry and then open again when placed in water—a powerful symbol of renewal, protection, cleansing, and fresh starts. It’s traditionally associated with attracting good luck, peace in the home, and abundance energy, making it a favorite for altar work and intention rituals.
Origin / What it is
Rose of Jericho is commonly sold as a “resurrection plant.” Depending on the variety, it may come from desert regions(often associated with the Middle East/North Africa or Mexico), where it evolved to survive long dry periods and “wake up” with moisture.
How to Use + Care
To activate it:
-
Place it in a shallow bowl with room-temperature water (enough to touch the base).
-
Within hours it will begin to open; it usually fully opens within 1–2 days.
Water care (important):
-
Change the water every 2–3 days to keep it fresh and help prevent odor or mold.
-
Rinse the bowl between water changes.
Rest cycle (recommended):
-
Don’t keep it in water nonstop. After 5–7 days, let it dry out completely (it will close again).
-
Give it a dry “rest” for at least a few days before rehydrating again.
Spiritual tip:
The water you remove during changes is often used in folk practice for home cleansing—wipe or lightly sprinkle it on doors, door frames, and entrances to refresh the energy and reinforce protection (avoid delicate surfaces).
Placement tips:
-
Keep in indirect light (avoid harsh direct sun while in water).
-
Expect natural variation—each plant opens differently and may have imperfect edges.
Good to know:
-
This is a natural botanical item; color, size, and shape vary.
-
